Description of Work
Good network experience essential. In this scenario (ideal
for home networks that contain only 2 computers) we use
the faster of the two computers as a router. A router
is a box that routes data from one segment (the internet segment
in this case - the connection between the high speed modem and
Nic #1 in computer #1) to another (the intranet segment - Nic
#2 in computer #1 to Nic #3 in computer #2). It will require the
network technician to install a second network card in the primary
computer and get it to behave. Then the network technician will
install either Window's 98's ICS (Internet connection
software) or some other form of proxy software. These two steps
are the most difficult aspect of this installation.
The cabling will need to be run from the primary computer's
NIC #2 to computer #2's NIC #3. The second computer
will still require a network card to be installed if
one is not present already. Once the cable is run, it's simply
a matter of connectorizing the ends of the cables and connecting
them to the NICs.
The cable running between NIC's #2 and #3 will be
required to be a cross-over patch cable.
