Relatively easy (at least for someone that's done this sort
of thing before :). The difference between Method #2 and #1,
is that in Method #2, the second Internet Address is NOT a
unique Internet address. It is in fact a private "Intralan" address
that is generated by the Proxy software. Proxy as defined
by the Collin's Dictionary, is "a person authorized to
act on behalf of someone else". In fact the Proxy software
authorizes the first computer to act, request internet data
etc. on behalf of both computers.
This sort of thing used
to require 2 network cards to be installed in the Proxy computer.
However the people at Sygate have managed to forgo the need
for a 2nd network card in the proxy computer and thru the
magic of software require only a single network card to do
the entire job. The cabling will need to be run from the hub's
location near the high speed modem, to both computers.
The
second computer will still require a network card to be installed
if one is not present already. Once the cable is run, it's
simply a matter of connectorizing the ends of the cables and
connecting them to the Hub on one end and the network cards
in the computers on the other. The Hub acts as a "splitter" of
the digital signal coming out of the back of the high speed
modem. It's connection into the back of the high speed modem
completes the network.
